Kia ora te Whānau,
It is lovely to have seen you all this week and to welcome the new tamariki and families to our school.
It is so great to have you and your whānau here, we know you’re going to love it! These children bring the total of students to 79, our highest ever starting roll.
2023 is a big year for us here at Dalefield. All the developments outside to improve road safety, access to the school and full-school fencing, will have a positive impact for us all.
We are also commencing the planting projects with a view to having 10% of the school grounds in native plant cover. This will have massive spinoffs for the ecology, as we encourage insects, birds and soil biota onto our land, ultimately improving the environment for everything and everyone. This is a massive learning opportunity for our tamariki and they will be involved in all facets of the planning and implementation.
There are however two key points that the school is having to address with these projects, namely around the cost and potential sponsorship.
As you know the playground equipment was dismantled to make way for the new parking space. Whilst major safety and building works are funded by the Ministry of Education, playground equipment is not. Our senior students last year completed a project to design the new playground. The designs incorporated planting and equipment being moved across to the area in and around the large trees and bike track. In order for this to happen the school is looking to the community for input of ideas, sponsorship possibilities and assistance.
Can you please give thought to how you and your whānau could assist us get these projects off the ground. With the whole community on board, the possibilities are huge. Here is a link to a Google form for your input and we encourage you all to respond. Please also talk to Eric or any of the team - this will be welcomed.
