NOTE TO PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS ABOUT OUR ENROLMENT SCHEME

You may recall that some time ago, we sent out information regarding the Ministry of Education's plan to create an enrollment scheme for Dalefield School. The ministry has completed its inquiries, and the enrollment zone for our school is set to commence at the beginning of Term 3 on the 22nd of July 2024.

Below is the ministry's official communication regarding this matter, which we encourage you to read.

In summary, the zone, shown in the maps below, will not affect any current student's ability to attend Dalefield School. Prospective out-of-zone students will need to apply through a balloting system, which is explained in the ministry's attached information.

We are happy to meet and discuss any concerns you may have regarding the implications this may have on future enrollments. We will be holding two Q&A sessions during the first week of Term 3 should you wish to discuss further. These sessions will be held in Mangaterere from 3pm on Monday 22nd and Wednesday 24th July.

Dalefield School (2831)
Enrolment Scheme
(Updated to Education and Training Act 2020)

Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below shall be eligible to enrol at the school.

Addresses on both sides of boundary roads are considered in-zone unless specified otherwise.

Southern Boundary:

From the intersection of State Highway 2 and Matarawa Road heading west along the Waiohine  River until the end of Matarawa Road. Using the Waihone River as the boundary.

Western Boundary:

Head North from the end of Matarawa Road along the Waiohine River until reaching Waiohine Gorge  Road, follow Waiohine Gorge Road north until it ends.

Northern Boundary

From the top of Waiohine Gorge Road, head east toward the northernmost point of Dalefield Road,  follow Dalefield Road southeast until it turns Southwest. From this point head east until the north most point of Benges Road, follow Benges Road southeast until the intersection with Mannings Road, and from here continue southeast in the same direction until the most Western point of the 52 Lincoln  Road Property. From here go south until Lincoln Road is reached (across the road from between  Miles Lane & Costley Street West).

All Lincoln Road properties are not in zone unless stated otherwise.

EASTERN Boundary:

From this point, the eastern boundary line turns south along Lincoln Rd until its intersection with  Dalefield Road and doesn’t include any side streets or Lincoln Road Houses (Except for houses  174,168 and 162 Lincoln Road, which are in zone).

From the intersection of Lincoln Rd and Dalefield Rd, the boundary line then extends south to connect with SH2 at its intersection with Waihakeke Rd and continues south back to where SH2  crosses over above the Waiohine River.

Hodders Road off Dalefield Road and both Gallon Road and Matarawa Rd which run off the west of SH2 are in zone.

Each year, applications for enrolment in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date that will be published by public notice in a medium appropriate to the area served by the school. This will enable the board to assess the number of places that can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.

Special Programmes

This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a Special programme approved by the Secretary.

OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS

Applications for enrolments will be processed in the following order of priority:

  1. First priority is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary for Education.
  2. Second priority will be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student at the school.
  3. Third priority will be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school.
  4. Fourth priority will be given to any applicant who is the child of a former student of the school.
  5. Fifth priority will be given to any applicant who is a child of an employee of the school’s board or a child of a member of the school’s board.
  6. Sixth priority will be given to all other applicants.

Before the application deadline associated with each pre-enrolment period, a Board must, by public  notice in a medium appropriate to the area served by the school:

  • confirm the already advertised dates for the receipt of applications and for the holding of the ballot.
  • state the likely number of out-of-zone places that remain available.

If there are more applicants in any priority group than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions by the Secretary, under  Schedule 20, Clause 3 (1) of the Education and Training Act 2020. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by public notice in a medium appropriate to the area served by the school.

Applicants may be required to give proof of In Zone address, or proof to support their application if seeking enrolment under the Out of Zone priorities.

The guidelines for the development and operation of enrolment schemes are issued under Schedule 20,  Clause 3 (3) of the Education and Training Act 2020 for the purpose of describing the basis on which the Secretary’s powers in relation to enrolment schemes will be exercised.
